PVC edge banding is a thermoplastic sheet material made primarily of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), with added plasticizers, stabilizers, lubricants, dyes, and other additives, which are then mixed and pressed together.

Its surface features wood grain, marble, fabric textures, and other patterns and designs, with a soft gloss that mimics the realism and three-dimensionality of wood. It possesses a certain degree of smoothness and decorative appeal, along with resistance to heat, chemicals, and corrosion, and a certain level of surface hardness. The main function of edge banding is to seal the cross-section of the board, protecting it from damage caused by adverse environmental and usage factors (primarily moisture), preventing the release of formaldehyde from within the board, and simultaneously achieving a decorative effect.
