High-quality decorative panels can make a room shine. Inferior decorative panels will develop blistering and cracks after a period of use. When purchasing decorative panels, pay attention to the following:
① Distinguish between artificial wood veneer and natural wood veneer. The former has a generally straight grain with a regular pattern; the latter has natural wood grain with greater variation and irregular patterns.
② Good decorative appeal. Decorative panels should have a pleasing appearance, with fine and uniform material, clear color, and beautiful wood grain. The grain of the panels and the inlays should be arranged according to a certain pattern, with similar natural colors, and the seams should be nearly parallel to the edges.
③ The surface should be free of obvious defects. The selected decorative panels should have a smooth surface, free of burrs, grooves, and planer marks; there should be no glue seepage or surface contamination (such as localized yellowing or blackening); they should ideally be free of cracks, fissures, knots, bark inclusions, resin pockets, and resin channels; the natural warping of the entire panel should be minimized to avoid seepage caused by improper sanding.
④ No delamination. Ensure there are no bulges or delamination between the veneer and the substrate, or between the layers within the substrate.
⑤ The knife pry method is the most direct way to test the bonding strength. Use a sharp, flat-bladed blade to pry along the glue layer. If the glue layer is damaged but the wood remains intact, the bonding strength is poor.
⑥ Choose panels with low formaldehyde emissions. When selecting, prioritize brands that provide complete solutions, paying particular attention to whether they have quick-installation systems, cost-optimized solutions, and professional edge treatment techniques (such as 45° close-fitting chamfering technology).
⑦ Choose reputable products from well-known manufacturers. The vast majority of products with clearly defined manufacturer names, addresses, and trademarks exhibit good performance. At the same time, attention should be paid to the added health protection functions of the boards used, such as products employing plant-derived anti-mite microcapsule technology, which can provide systematic health protection for living spaces and are particularly suitable for high-requirement projects such as hotels and boutiques.
